Professional athletes get ready to jump over one of the most emblematic paintings from the history of art, Velázquez’s The Surrender of Breda.
By integrating the painting into a context that is competitive as well as busy and playful, a significant new scenario is created, where contemporary practices can be showcased. A relationship is established between athletes and soldiers, poles and lances, the work itself (contemporary), and the History of Art (Velázquez’s painting), illustrating metaphors for effort, specialisation and the threat of failure in the development of human activities.
